upper petals with small silvery throats suffusing through deep red with deep carmine-violet edges. Lower petals silvery carmine-violet throats to deep red. Upper petals spatulate with pointed tips. Lower petals lanceolate with cuspidate acute tips.Tube is silvery carmine violet. Filaments silvery white with faint pale carmine-violet hue. Flower length 6.5 cm. Upper width 3.5 cm., lower width 4.5 cm. Tube length 3 cm. Ovary receptacle 1 cm., faintly four angled, deep bronze with darker base. Flowers are distinctive with their deep carmine coloration and distinct deep carmine-violet sides (wings) which inspired the name. Flowering mid June mid July (Australia).
